Automated Systems for Customs Data ( ASYCUDA) was developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ( UNCTAD) as a means of compiling foreign trade statistics. The software was designed to handle manifests and customs declarations, accounting, transit and suspense procedures.

ASYCUDA World is the latest version of the software that has been enhanced by web interface technology to revolutionize Customs, taking trade facilitation in Grenada and the region to another level. The ASYCUDA Upgrade Project in Grenada is funded through the World Bank, with counterpart funding by the Government of Grenada as part of the GDTAC Project.

The introduction of ASYCUDA World sets the stage for e–Government in Grenada. The use of this web based technology will revolutionize the way in which business is transacted by traders at Grenada Customs. This new application lends itself to vast improvements in Trade Facilitation as it will ultimately serve to eliminate the loss of revenue and current delays due to paper and time intensive procedures associated with doing business at Grenada Customs today.

Pocket Device

Availability of the wireless Internet and new electronic devices such as light tablet PCs or Personal Digital Assistants have the potential to bring the power of e-Document applications to the field. The specific user interface capabilities of the targeted electronic devices characterize the scope and complexity of HTML designs.
     
     

Smart Desktop

Full-fledged applications featuring secure e-Documents with rich client interfaces run on any Java-enabled computer connected to the network. They can be launched either from Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator or MS-Internet Explorer, or directly from an icon placed on the desktop. The client software is automatically deployed and upgraded using the built-in Java Web Start technology. Most popular desktop operating systems are Windows XP, Linux, Macintosh, Solaris, AIX and others.

Asycuda World
Grenada Customs and Excise Division will be launching the pilot stage of the Cargo Manifest Module of the ASYCUDA World System on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. In the first instance it will apply to ships/vessels arriving and departing at the St. George’s Port. Other areas such as MBIA, Grenville and Carriacou will be phased over the following weeks and months. Training of officers and various key stakeholders is nearing completion.
